From the 1st January 2020, licensed cabs operating on diesel must meet Euro 6 emission standards in order to avoid the daily CAZ charge. Approved by Birmingham City Council (with a £5,000 grant available), drivers can repower their non-Euro 6 TX taxis with GasCab, enabling them to operate until 2025 with no daily charges AND reducing their fuel costs by up to 30%.
Quiet, Smooth, Economical!!
"A GasCab converted taxi drives almost like a normal car, no vibrations and a quiet and smooth Power delivery "
The process to getting your Cab converted is simple. We do most of the work for you.
We can convert TX1, TX2 and TX4 cabs, provided the vehicle is in suitable condition (e.g. gearbox in working order, boot space is free of rust). The grant is only available for Licensed Birmingham cab drivers. Please contact the council to confirm your eligible.
Getting booked in
We will start repowering cabs as soon as the grant funds are available (expected mid to late July), on a first come, first serve basis. To reserve your place on the list, a £1,000 deposit is required (fully refundable if for any reason you do not proceed). VRS will contact drivers to advise on availability, aiming to give at least 2 weeks notice.
Drop off your vehicle
On the agreed date, bring your cab and V5 document to our conversion facility in Alcester (B49 6EX). An initial payment of £5,000 is required before we start work, at which point we notify the council that your cab is being repowered. This enables the council to complete the necessary administration to issue the grant funding.
During the conversion the vehicle is stripped of its Diesel system and the new engine, fuel systems, wiring, ECU and exhaust is installed. The process takes up to 8 working days.
Certification & Exemption
The Cab is fully tested and placed onto the UKLPG register, confirming that the vehicle has been converted to the industry standard. We'll also send off your modified V5 document to the DVLA.
Once your cab is finished, it is ready to be collected. Following a testdrive and system demonstration, including how to refuel, the remaining balance is taken in order to release the vehicle. The driver must get in touch with the council directly to obtain the grant funding.
